Times are a changing!

This year as they all do has had it’s ups and downs, the first half of the year was dominated by the work booked pre-Christmas. Whilst this time of year has always been busy for me I didn’t expect to be booked up until June 2007 from before Christmas 2006. Summer was quiet, for the most part I think due to the wonderful July weather we had. However October I think has more than made up for that, (I’ve managed to get over 8 layers of international ‘perfection’ two pack varnish onto a set of exterior toerails without any major problems!)

I am pleased to announce that on June 9th I proposed to my now fiancée (she accepted)

Adeline is a French native, freelance teaching with various local schools and universities. (Which makes all those days I spent at school French lessons saying things like ‘It doesn’t matter if I don’t understand, I’m never going to need to understand French‘ seem a bit daft. Especially as prospective mother/father/brother in law have same level of English as I do French)

Next big bit of news is that on Monday I start work (as an employee) for Royal Quays Marina. Many reasons for doing this. A big one being that to pay for two weddings (one English / one French) I’m going to have to start seriously saving. Wedding is planned for 01August2009, which at about 18months away doesn’t leave a lot of time.

The question I’ve been asked already is ‘are you going to keep on fixing boats?’ ………….answer in short is yes. I expect to continue working around 10days per month as normal although this may change. However due to work already in the pipeline and expected loss of days due to bad weather in Jan and Feb, this equates to about the end of March. After last winter’s ‘six month waiting list’ I want to avoid booking any more work until much nearer this time.

As always if anyone’s got any tech questions or just wants a bit of advice, just ask. As I’ll be an employee of another company the phone will be switched off whilst I’m working. (After all if I’m propping your boat up in the yard you’ll be wanting me to concentrate) Email is generally a lot more reliable (mail@aidancharlton.co.uk) and is ideal for answering tech questions as if I’m sent a couple of photos with your message I can normally see straight away what might be a sensible solution
